The Yearly Energy Bill: 3-Phase Cryo Chambers vs KRYO KUBE
Running costs rarely make the brochure, but you pay them every day for as long as you own the chamber. This post puts a number on it: a year of electricity for an imported 3-phase chamber against every KRYO KUBE commercial model. It also covers how many people each chamber serves, and the purchase price and installation cost that come before the first session.
Efficiency was a design goal from day one
Energy efficiency wasn't added to KRYO KUBE at the end. It was one of the key drivers of the whole development program, alongside purchase price, and it shaped how every model is engineered and manufactured. The brief was to reach −120°C from a standard Australian 10 A power point, with no specialist electrical supply and running costs that stay predictable.
For how the refrigeration system achieves that, read The Efficiency Gap. This post is about what it means for your bills.
How we worked it out
The 3-phase chamber: We used one of the so called, leading imported model's own published figure of about 90 kWh per operating day. That model runs on a dedicated 3-phase supply.
KRYO KUBE: We costed each model at its rated wattage for every hour of every day. That overstates real use. Overnight, with the chamber idle and the fan off or on low, a KRYO KUBE draws less than its rated wattage, so actual yearly bills come in below the figures shown.
Electricity rate: $0.30 per kWh, a typical indicative Australian commercial tariff.
One year, chamber by chamber
Imported 3-phase chamber
About 32,850 kWh a year, or roughly $9,855
KRYO KUBE KUB (400 W)
Up to 3,504 kWh a year, or roughly $1,051. That's about $8,800 less.
KRYO KUBE EKO (700 W)
Up to 6,132 kWh a year, or roughly $1,840. That's about $8,000 less.
KRYO KUBE PREMIUM (800 W)
Up to 7,008 kWh a year, or roughly $2,102. That's about $7,750 less.
KRYO KUBE OPULENT (1,200 W)
Up to 10,512 kWh a year, or roughly $3,154. That's about $6,700 less.
Even our largest model, costed at full rated wattage around the clock, uses about a third of the energy of the 3-phase chamber.
The five-year view
Electricity is paid every year you own the chamber. Over five years at the same rate:
Imported 3-phase chamber: about $49,300
KUB: up to about $5,300
EKO: up to about $9,200
PREMIUM: up to about $10,500
OPULENT: up to about $15,800
That's a gap of roughly $33,500 to $44,000 per chamber, before counting the lower overnight draw.
Over a 12-hour trading day
Most venues trade for around 12 hours. Costed on that basis, the yearly KRYO KUBE figures roughly halve:
KUB: about $526
EKO: about $920
PREMIUM: about $1,051
OPULENT: about $1,577
More people, not more power
Energy per chamber is only half the comparison. What matters to a busy venue is energy per person served.
Some 3-phase chambers take one or two people per session. The KRYO KUBE PREMIUM and OPULENT take two to three, with an internal footprint comparable to, and in some cases larger than, many 3-phase chambers.
So a full OPULENT session with three people uses a fraction of the energy of a 3-phase chamber serving two, from a standard power point. For couples, small groups and teams, the efficiency gap gets wider, not narrower.
Purchase price
A large imported 3-phase chamber can land at several times the starting price of a KRYO KUBE once freight, currency exchange and installation are added.
KRYO KUBE KUB: From AUD $45,000
KRYO KUBE EKO: From AUD $65,000
KRYO KUBE PREMIUM: From AUD $85,000
KRYO KUBE OPULENT: From AUD $135,000
Every KRYO KUBE is built in Australia, so there's no international freight or currency exposure. Every chamber comes with a 24-month all-inclusive warranty and a 48-hour service response.
Prices are indicative starting prices, excluding freight and GST.
The cost before the first session
A 3-phase chamber needs a dedicated 3-phase circuit. That can mean a licensed electrician, a switchboard upgrade and approvals before the chamber arrives. Every KRYO KUBE runs from a standard Australian 10 A single-phase power point.
Why efficiency matters beyond your power bill
Energy efficiency is now a global priority. Nearly 200 countries at COP28 agreed to double the global rate of energy efficiency improvement by 2030. For venues, that shows up in electricity pricing, sustainability reporting and customers who notice what a business consumes.
A chamber that plugs into a standard outlet and uses a fraction of the energy of a 3-phase system fits where the world is heading. It also keeps one of your biggest running costs small and predictable.
What this comparison doesn't tell you
Your actual usage: Real consumption depends on session volume, room temperature, operating hours and how long the chamber sits idle.
Your tariff: Every 5 cents per kWh changes the 3-phase chamber's yearly bill by about $1,640. The same change moves an EKO's by about $300 at most.

All figures are indicative only. They are based on published or rated specifications and an assumed tariff of $0.30/kWh. KRYO KUBE figures use rated wattage for every hour of the year and overstate typical use. Actual running costs vary with usage, site conditions and electricity pricing.
FAQ schema
How much does a KRYO KUBE cost to run each year? At $0.30/kWh, costed at rated wattage 24/7, up to about $1,051 (KUB) to $3,154 (OPULENT). Over a 12-hour trading day it's roughly half that, and lower overnight draw brings it down further.
Do I need 3-phase power for a KRYO KUBE? No. Every model plugs into a standard Australian 10 A outlet.
How many people fit in a KRYO KUBE? The PREMIUM and OPULENT take two to three people per session.
How much does a KRYO KUBE cost to buy? From AUD $45,000 (KUB) to AUD $135,000 (OPULENT), excluding freight and GST. Lease, rent-to-own and outright purchase are available.
